ECO-SOUL, JAZZ CONCERT CELEBRATING EARTH DAY (8th ANNUAL CENTRAL BROOKLYN JAZZ FESTIVAL)
Brooklyn, New York --As part of the 8th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival, Weeksville Heritage Center will host ECO-SOUL, a celebration of Earth Day featuring Donald Harrison's Electric Band. The afternoon of upbeat jazz will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 2:00 until 3:30 PM at 1698 Bergen Street near Buffalo in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. The outdoor concert is free and family friendly. Saxophonist, singer and composer Donald Harrison is the recognized "King of Noveau Swing." A style which merges acoustic swing with modern R&B, second line, hip-hop, reggae rhythms and Mardi Gras Indian Music (New Orleans African American roots culture). The son of the late great Mardi Gras Indian Chief Donald Harrison, Sr., he performed with many of the jazz legends including Roy Haynes, Jack McDuff and Art Blakey before his 21st birthday. Harrison now a proven master of many musical genres, has written and performed many innovative classic jazz compositions. some of his compositions are now part of the standard repertoire of jazz. His 1994 album, "Tropic of Cool" went to the top of Billboard Magazine's Smooth Jazz and R&B charts and is considered a classic. Donald's latest recording, 3D Vol.1 features smooth jazz artist Chris Botti and Latin jazz legend Eddie Palmieri.
