February 9: "CAR"-NI-VAL fills the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Avenue, offering a FREE concert (tickets are required) featuring legendary New Orleans performer Dr. John.
It's Mardi Gras time at the Navy Pier Grand Ballroom with a FREE Chicago-style CAR-NI-VAL celebration featuring music and fun on Friday, February 9. Headlining the event is legendary New Orleans musician Dr. John. Known for his "fonk" music, a compilation of pop/blues/gospel/jazz/R & B/funk, his energetic sound is sure to have everyone's beads jumping by the end of the night. Saxophonist Donald Harrison, one of the most respected jazz improvisers today, will open the concert. From a line of New Orleans Mardi Gras chiefs, he will conjure up the spirit of professor Longhair by featuring a rhythm section from the Tipitina's Foundation to help create his personal blend of New Orleans funk.
