Harrison blends trap hip-hop, jazz, soul, blues, roots reggae, bossa nova, tropical salsa, and second-line into a new natural modern jazz sound. The breadth of knowledge this seasoned professional has garnered after nearly five decades is evident on this version. His creative talents and soulful saxophone sound blend into the roots-to-infinity musical brew. Echoes of Harrison's role as Big Chief of Congo Square and his reverence for Sidney Bechet, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Fred Wesley, Eddie Henderson, Aretha Franklin, Grover Washington, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Roy Haynes, Art Blakey, James Brown, Wayne Shorter, Charles McPherson, and others are present throughout. Joe Dyson's collaboration with Harrison redefines the concept of drumming with new ideas for ride patterns, rolls, transitions, and bass drum patterns. Dyson plays a progressive concept that mixes jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop, Afro-Cuban, and Afro-New Orleans. Harrison said he explained to bassist Nori Naraoka the idea of playing many concepts simultaneously. He mixed funk ostinatos, walking half-time, walking regular time, and playing across time into sublime support and prodding ideas that sparked the band. You hear flashes of McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, funk, salsa, and other forms of music in Harrison's piano arrangement. Dan Kaufman adds his personality and inventive approach to the song.
